Kolkata, the hub of culture and scientific excellence in India, is set to host the prestigious HAMFEST INDIA, the national amateur radio convention at the Sister Nivedita University on December 14 and 15. For the third time in 33 years, the City of Joy has been selected to stage this iconic event.
The program is being conducted under the esteemed guidance of IAS S Suresh Kumar, the Honorable Chairman of HAMFEST INDIA. The event led by OSCAR INDIA, the youngest and most dynamic forum in India’s amateur radio field in association with Sister Nivedita University, promises to be a landmark occasion for the HAM radio community.
"Bengal is the pioneer in the history of India’s amateur radio. Because Bengal was the home of India’s first licensed HAM, Amarendra Chandra Gooptu (2JK), who obtained his license in 1921, so in celebration of 103 years of ham radio practice we are hosting HAMFEST INDIA in the place from where the journey began,” said Nilkantha Chatterjee, Convenor of the event.
HFI24 is poised to be a milestone event for the HAM radio community with a prominent Advisory Board, comprising a stellar lineup of distinguished experts and veterans from across the country, including Brigadier Jaideep Chanda, Shri Onkarnath Yadav - Director of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and Praveen Valera - a veteran HAM from Gujarat, among other esteemed members.
This year’s HAMFEST truly showcasing the global community of HAM Radio, representing over 16 Indian states and hosting international delegates from Dubai, USA, Nepal, Oman, and Germany, the board exemplifies the event’s truly global appeal.
Official representatives from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) will elevate the significance of this year’s HAMFEST INDIA.
