The Department of Biotechnology and Department of Microbiology at Sister Nivedita University recently organised the inaugural session of the National Symposium of Biology, SNU-BioTalk2024 witnessing enormous participation from scientists and scholars across India.

Organised at the university campus on February 8 and 9, the talks concluded with a resounding success with Vice Chancellor Prof Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, being the guiding light of the event. The session was convened by Dr Surjit Singh, Dr Siddhartha Dutta and Dr Souri Roy.

"SNU is organising this BioTalk to identify the focus areas in microbiology and biotechnology for the students to understand the different types of research going on in these fields and develop their inquisitiveness and interest so that they realise where they fit in," said Prof Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay.

This included Prof Usha Vijayaraghavan (IISc), Prof Ashwani Pareek (NABI) and Prof Alok Krishna Sinha (NIPGR), who shared their expertise in their keynote speeches while Dr Ashis Kumar Nandi (JNU), Dr Debasish Chatopadhayay, Dr Manoj Majee and Dr Jitendra Thakur (NIPGR) enriched the talks with their research insights.
Students, scholars and faculties also showcased their poster presentations, further enhancing this intellectually stimulating exchange.
"If such programmes are conducted regularly, many students will take basic research and advanced research as their career," said Dr Jitendra Thakur.
