IIT Kharagpur has commenced the application process for the first round of the Young Innovators’ Programme (YIP) 2024. Interested candidates can register themselves till December 12, 2024 for the sixth edition of the programme.

The event, which will be held from January 10 to 12, 2025, aims to inculcate a scientific temper in young minds.

Students currently enrolled in Classes 8 to 12 are eligible to participate in the competition. The competition has been divided into two divisions namely the Junior and the Senior divisions. While the junior division is for students from classes 8 to 10, the Senior Division will consist of students from Classes 10 and 12. Here it is to be noted that the students of Class 10 can participate in any one of the two divisions.

After the first round, the top teams from across the country will be selected to visit the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where they will exhibit and demonstrate their models, prototypes and charts, which will be evaluated by the institute’s esteemed faculty.

How to participate in the Young Innovators’ Programme (YIP) 2024?

1. The school principal must nominate a coordinating teacher for the programme.

2. The coordinating teacher will be provided with a user ID and password to register students.

3. Students must form a team of maximum of three members (individual participation allowed) and submit their details to the coordinating teacher.

In Round One, teams are required to submit an abstract of their project ideas, detailing the scientific proposal based on the chosen theme. The results of Round One will be announced on the official YIP website, and qualifying teams will be notified via email.

Subsequent Rounds:

Semifinals: Top teams will be invited to a two-day event at IIT Kharagpur. Registration fees for this round will be announced after the first round results are declared.

Final Round: The winning teams will present their ideas through a presentation, followed by a Q&A session.
