Oxford Public School, Ranchi organised the Second Winter Inter-School Badminton Tournament in its premises, recently. The tournament witnessed participation from nine prestigious schools of the city including Jawahar Vidya Mandir Shyamali, D.A.V Public School Bariatu, D.A.V Public School Gandhinagar, St. Johns School, Surendranath School, Kairali School, Springdale School and Holy Cross School.
Students from the participating schools displayed their talent at the sporting event which was inaugurated by the school's Academic Director Dr. Simi Mehta, Academic Co-ordinator Mr. Ravi Shekhar, Controller of Examinations Mr. A.K Srivastava and Junior Wing Incharge Mr. Raj Kishore Sharma.
On the first day of the tournament, DAV Bariatu defeated DAV Gandhinagar reaching the finals, while in the second semi-final, JVM Shyamali defeated Springdale, in the boys category.
The finals were played on the second day of the tournament which was inaugurated by N.K Dey, General Secretary Badminton Association of Ranchi and Joint Secretary Jharkhand Badminton Association, who was also the Chief guest on the occasion.
In the finals of the boys category, the teams of both the schools displayed their sporting talent and amidst tough competition, the team of DAV Public School, Bariatu achieved a spectacular victory.
In the second day's play, in the girls category, DAV Public School, Bariatu defeated Kairali School and made it to the finals. In the final match of the girls category, DAV Public School, Bariatu won the title by defeating Oxford Public School
The Chief Guest, while presenting the winners trophies, cash prize, medals and certificates, said that games should always be played for the spirit of sports.
