Universities, colleges and schools are all ready with a series of virtual events this winter. Presidency University promises to takes you back to colonial times; Jadavpur University will turn the spotlight on Satyajit Ray in his centenary year, and the Xavier Institute of Management will host a session on corporate leadership and coaching for all. Sunday Classics, a youth-led organisation based out of Kolkata, is set to bring back the culture of on-ground Open Mic after a sabbatical. Apeejay Schools will host an inter-school theatre competition.

Satyajit Ray Centenary Lecture --- Second Edition

Organised by: Jadavpur University, Department of Film Studies

When: November 12, 6pm

Look out for: An online lecture by Supriya Chaudhuri, professor, Jadavpur University, on Being and Seeing: Thresholds of the visible in Satyajit Ray’s Devi

Organiser-speak: “The Department of Film Studies at Jadavpur University has been organising a lecture series to celebrate the birth centenary of Satyajit Ray. A seminar took place in March with speakers from various parts of the world. The lecture series that followed began with Dudley Andrew of Yale University. In the upcoming session, Supriya Chaudhuri of Jadavpur University will speak on Ray’s Devi,” said Moinak Biswas, professor, Film Studies, Jadavpur University.

Cascade: Let the Art Flow

Look out for: An open-mic that includes singing, beatboxing, rapping, instrumental, mimicry, poetry, and storytelling. Shamik Adhikary aka Nonsane, a YouTuber, will perform.

Calcutta University, will deliver a lecture on Traversing the Countryside Through the Prophet Oriented Folk Songs of Colonial Bengal

Masquerade 2021 - All the World’s a Stage

Organised By: Apeejay Schools

When: November 24, 5pm

Look out for: A virtual inter-school theatre competition for students of Classes IX and XI. You will need to perform a mono-act play for students based on the theme William Shakespeare: Life and Works. Students will be given 5 to 7 minutes to put up their acts in English or Hindi.
