La Martiniere for Girls school’s Principal shares her thoughts on International Mothers day

You are the most precious gift of my life. I saw God’s love and goodness through your smile when I held you for the first time in my arms. As you grew, I grew and evolved too. My visit to the grocery store to buy the latest variety of cream biscuits for your tiffin box, or picking up a new recipe anticipating your smile, maybe calling up the music school for a slot to accommodate your violin lessons or waiting at the swimming club to bring you back home, all of these and much more gave me aspirations and fulfilment in life. As you encountered small victories in your journey, I felt the joy of achievement.

Time flew and you finished school, now ready to fly from the cocooned shelter to a wide world of possibilities. I experienced new emotions of anxiety as you adjusted in unfamiliar environments. You had new ideas and thoughts and our interactions were through regular phone calls and chats. I saw the new generation through your eyes. When you visited home, I realised that we missed having our Tom and Jerry fights and laughter sessions at simple things we both found amusing.

I now understand that mothers need affection and doting upon as much as they show affection to their children. The sudden feeling of being redundant in the life of her child can be scary and stressful. But she slowly learns to find meaning and happiness when her child is genuinely happy.

Mothers are an image of love and sacrifice and are always portrayed as givers. But if I would become the voice of all mothers, they would agree with me in saying, they need love, care, thoughtfulness from their children. They look forward to an eternal dwelling in the hearts of their children.

Thank you Beta for filling my life with your love and it has made me the richest person on earth.
