The Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology (MSIT) hosted a dynamic two-day event, Innovate 2.0: Innovation & IPR Conclave, organized by the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC-MSIT). The event, held on 17th and 18th May, aimed to foster innovation and creativity among students through a series of workshops, competitions, and keynote sessions.

Day 1 Highlights:

The inauguration session was enlightened by the speech of Dr. Tapan Misra, Ex-Director-ISRO, Prof. (Dr.) Suman Bhattacharya, Director-KIIT & KISS, Mr. Partha Sarkar, Regional Head of Academic Alliance (TCS), Ms. Ina Bose, Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Innovation and Incubation of SNU, and Mr. Anirban Choudhuri, WEBEL-Fujisoft, Centre of Excellence, VP Academic & Corporate Relations. The speakers mentioned the various aspects of innovation and the necessity of Innovation among the young student community. Prof. (Dr.) Tirthankar Datta, principal in his speech mentioned about the event and the rich history of innovation & R&D achievements of Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology. Prof.(Dr.) Sudip Dogra also mentioned about the innovation culture in the institute and activities of Institution Innovation Council. The session was followed by a vote of thanks from Prof.(Dr.) Sudip Dogra, President of IIC-MSIT.

In the afternoon session, students participated in the inter-school model competition from reputed schools of districts of Howrah, Kolkata, Hooghly and Midnapore and the intra-college prototype event. The event was a grand success which saw 47 teams from 20 schools, 151 student participants, 50 faculty mentors and 5 eminent jury members. Around 30 teams have participated in the Intra-college prototype event.

Parallel to these, a workshop on "Innovation & Design Thinking '' was conducted by Mr. Arijit Hajra, Founder and CEO of Think Again Lab. The school and college students have enjoyed the workshop greatly. The day concluded with the felicitation of the inter school model competition winners and a closing vote of thanks by Prof. Aliv Banerjee, one of the organizing members.

Day 2 Highlights:

The second day opened with another inaugural session featuring esteemed academicians such as Prof. (Dr.) Khanindra Pathak, MD-STEP, IIT Kharagpur, and Prof. Biswajit Ghosh, Vice Chancellor of Neotia University. Following this, a comprehensive session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was held, which included insights from experts Prof. (Dr.) Manas Sanyal, Secretary, TCGTBI, IIEST, Shibpur, Prof. (Dr.) Suman Bhattacharya, Director, KIIT & KISS, Dr. Mahuya Hom Choudhury, Nodal Officer, Patent Information Centre, Govt. of WB, and Dr. S K Mitra, Ex-Deputy Controller, Office of the Patents & Design, Govt. of India. The session was concluded with the felicitation of panellist and a closing vote of thanks by Dr. Sukhendu Jana, one of the organizing members.

After the session, the IPR cell of MSIT was formally inaugurated by Dr. Mahuya Hom Choudhury. The institute has also opened a student chapter of IIC-MSIT.

Post-lunch, the business model competition pitching took center stage, and also the prototype competition. More than 20 teams from different reputed colleges have participated in the Business Model Competition. Concurrently, Mr. Aaquib Hussain, Founding Partner of Freeflow Venture Builders and our alumni, led a workshop on "Narrative & Investment Myths."

The event culminated in a felicitation ceremony for intra-college and inter-college competition winners, including Smart India Hackathon (SIH) finalists and winners team members as well as mentors. The IIC has felicitated three faculty members who are working constantly and consistently since the inception of IIC & IIEDC. The valedictory session featured a vote of thanks by Prof. Debarshi Ghosh, Convener of IIC.

Innovate 2.0 successfully brought together students, educators, and industry professionals, fostering a collaborative environment that celebrated creativity and innovation. The event underscored MSIT's commitment to nurturing future innovators and leaders.
