A majority of school children dislike mathematics. It is difficult, confusing, and one of the subjects that seems to lower their marks. You could have experienced a similar scenario when you were stuck in a maths exam and unable to provide the answers. It's a fairly typical nightmare, but it doesn't have to be this way. When it all boils down to it, mathematics is significant for a wide range of reasons. Our young achiever of the day is a believer of the same. Rahul Konar, a student of Delhi Public School Ruby Park, Kolkata has secured the 1st rank in the International Mathematics olympiad organised by Science Olympiad Foundation this year.
The Telegraph Online Edugraph spoke to Rahul and he said, “It was a nice experience. The first level was conducted in our school and was organised in a very systematic manner. The second level was conducted in DPS Joka. The exam environment was very peaceful and helped me concentrate better. This exam also helped to enhance my preparation for other competitive exams like JEE (Main), WBJEE etc. I practised past year question papers for Level 1 as well as Level 2 that helped me clear the exams”.
Mathematicians are often investigative people, which means they are extremely inquisitive and enjoy spending time thinking. Likewise, our young achiever Rahul also spent most of his time practising mathematical problems.

More than simple number sense, clearing the olympiad requires a solid comprehension of mathematical concepts. Rahul attests to the same and credits his teachers. “I would like to thank my teachers, especially our Mathematics teacher Mr. Milton Saha, who explained concepts well and gave us extra questions to practise at home. He also solved our doubts regularly. I also want to thank my class teachers Ms. Nilanjana Saha and Mr. Anurag Mishra for their help and support. I am grateful to our respected Principal Ma’am for giving us this opportunity to participate in SOF Olympiads, ” added Rahul.
It should come as no surprise that analytical thinking and logical reasoning also advance with arithmetic proficiency. At all mathematics education levels, logical thinking abilities are required. “Regular practice and concept clarity are essential to excel in these exams. Speed is very important. Regular practice and dedication is the key”, said the 1st rank holder.
