Mahadevi Birla World Academy hosted its annual fest, ‘Shabd - a Celebration of Words and Ideas’, from 16th to 18th August 2023. This fest aimed at strengthening the interdisciplinary connect with the real world, skills and competencies.
Shabd was not just a plethora of competitive events but also a platform for nurturing knowledge and creativity. Furthermore, the events were curated keeping in mind the essence of the 77th Independence Day of India. On 14th August a workshop was conducted by Mr. Parnab Mukherjee, the guide and mentor of the fest. It was informative, creating a strong and equal base for all participants.
On 16th August the fest commenced with a gorgeous opening ceremony where the students of MBWA showcased their talent through a soulful rendition of Shloka and an energetic dance performance. It also included a Nukkad Natak based on the school’s theme for this year, LIFE- Lifestyle for Environment. The day continued with young debaters putting their best foot forward in the first event of the fest, ‘Plurilogues’ - a multi format debate competition.
While eloquently tackling the diverse range of topics given to them in the various formats of debate, the participants also got a chance to hone their logical, analytical and critical thinking skills. The judges for the event were Mr. Sumit Ray, Mr. Pradeep Gooptu and Ms. Swati Gautam along with Mr. Parnab Mukherjee as the moderator.
In this battle of words and thoughts, Mahadevi Birla World Academy and Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir reached the final round. The host school was declared the winner. However, staying true to the spirit of sportsmanship , the winners’ trophy was passed on to the first runner up, Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir.
The second day was yet another exciting day for students who admire quizzing. The quiz, ‘Kolkata-333’, celebrated the beauty and the heritage of our city Kolkata. In the 333rd year of the city, Mahadevi Birla World Academy conducted this quiz that served as a rich source of information about our ‘City of Joy’.
The quiz included myriad interesting facts about Kolkata and was a fascinating reminder of the city’s truly international character. Yet again, Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir performed excellently and emerged the winner.
The third day commenced with ‘Sandarbh’, a journey through songs and words. Participating schools presented a collection of patriotic songs, with their own live bands.
The judges of the event were Ms. Sarvani Gooptu and Ms. Sangeeta Basu Roy. Mahadevi Birla World Academy secured the first position, but upholding the spirit of sportsmanship yet again, the winners’ trophy was passed on to the first runner up, DPS Howrah.
However, all participants and students won the priceless prize of memories created in this grand celebration of words, songs and ideas
‘Sandarbh’ was followed by ‘Torque’, an integrated dance dialogue. It was an exhibition event that demonstrated the interdisciplinary connect where Physics and Sociology intertwined with grace.
The three-day extravaganza ended with a play, ‘Every Leaf a Hallelujah’ based on the theme Lifestyle for Environment, directed by Ms. Dana Roy
It was an effective reminder that even the simplest things can harbour the most enchanting magic, guiding us to form sustainable habits that will keep us in sync with the environment and resonate with the ‘shabd’ of nature.
It left the audience with an eager anticipation of the fest next year.
