The Senior Section of Loreto Day School, Elliot Road, organised the Annual Concert of the school titled ‘Beyond Pride and Prejudice’ from 21st November 2024 to 23rd November 2024 at the Junior School Hall. The Concert was a retelling of the celebrated classic of Jane Austen capturing the tempestuous love saga of Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet.
Spectators of the Concert witnessed the charming world of Regency England unfold before them - accomplished men and women vying for courtship at ballroom dances - a world of delicate manners and refinements, inhabited by the aristocracy, the landed gentry, the traders and the militia regiment.
Every student from Class VI through Class XII participated in this Concert making it an enriching experience in teamwork, cooperation and inclusivity. The Concert brought to light an impressive flow of talent, creativity, discipline and commitment.
The Chief Guests for the event included Ms. Madhurima Vidyarthi, Ms. Amita Prasad, Mrs. Bharati Singh and Mrs. Kaveri Dutt. They commended the hard work of all students and harped on learning beyond the classroom as the truest form of education and preparation for life. They also appreciated the colourful performances by the students that left the audience simply enthralled. Students were encouraged to never despair but with great confidence pursue their dreams and goals in life because only the sky is the limit for Loreto Girls!
At its core, the play was an attempt to live true to Austen’s novel whilst seamlessly tuning it to the requirements of the evolving times and the artistic demands of the stage. It was an appeal to look beyond presumptions and allow virtues such as empathy, compassion, harmony and acceptance weave magic into our lives.
The play was a labour of love, passion and sheer dedication - all of which made it a thoroughly fulfilling and rewarding experience!
