Literaria, a platform for progressive ideas, defied literary norms, becoming a celebration of diverse creative forms. The event went beyond the ordinary, featuring Slam Poetry (Song of the Shrike), Character Representation (The Masquerade of Dionysia), Creative Writing (Alchemy in Ink), Blackout Poetry (Eclipse), Debate (Mind Maven Melee), Quiz (Quizzopolis: The Seasonal Odyssey), Doodling (Contoured Canvas), Photography (Through the Looking Glass), and Meme-Making (The Jester’s Jest). It wasn't just an event, it was a convergence of intellectual exploration and artistic expression.
In the dawning words of Eshna Bhattacharya, the eloquent Secretary of The English Academy, a profound revelation unveiled itself during her inaugural address. She painted the English academy as a realm of unique distinction—a domicile for contemplative souls wandering amidst the ordinary, seeking poetry within the petals of a mundane flower, and orchestrating music in the graceful flutter of eyes. Within these walls, joy is an enacted celebration, sorrows are serenaded, and a symphony of enchanting words casts its spell, invoking the very essence of literature. But, "Literaria," as she passionately painted in words, transcends the realm of a mere event. It emerges as an expression of the innermost self, an embodiment of truth. It symbolizes the elegant convergence of diverse souls, akin to the seamless dance of seasons. The four seasons coalesce in a grand tapestry—laughter, mimicry, mockery, and tears, all interwoven in a delicate balance, mirroring the intricate human dynamics of care and camaraderie.
Inspired by Vivaldi's masterpiece, "The Four Seasons," Literaria'23 embraced the theme of capturing seasonal beauty in literature. The theme harmonized with the rhythm of nature, transforming Literaria into a living, breathing entity. The choice of theme thus, seamlessly blended the magic of literature with the cadence of nature, inviting participants to explore the beauty and diversity of human expression. It resonated with every participant, creating a collective symphony that echoed in the halls of the Fr. Depelchin Auditorium of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata.
The unsung heroes of Literaria were the dedicated members of the Core Organizing Committee lead by Eshna Bhattacharya, the Secretary, a polymath in her own right, orchestrating facets beyond measure. Dilnasheen Zarreen, the Assistant Secretary, her dedication intertwining seamlessly with Eshna's, their collaboration a tapestry of meticulous planning and unwavering labour spun into the fabric of success.
As the pillars of strength, the Core Committee Members stood tall and resolute. Anindya Sundar Mirza sculpted visions that danced in ethereal realms, while Archita Chowdhury breathed life into words and moments. Hanna Maria Eldose, the steward of finances, expertly balanced the scales of abundance and restraint, akin to a maestro orchestrating the cadence of wealth. Naiwrit Mandal, a logistics virtuoso, wove intricate patterns of movement and placement, painting a canvas of seamless execution. Koyel Manna, the architect of events, chiselled experiences that lingered like forgotten dreams in the hearts of attendees. Sumaika, a conjurer of events, wove tales of wonder and awe, akin to a magician wielding her narrative wand. Isaac Das and Joel Guha, the harbingers of partnerships, summoned alliances and bridges, manifesting prosperity like a conjurer of fortunes.
Literaria'23 witnessed a revival of tradition as students from various colleges joined the celebration, adding a rich layer of diversity. Every competition and performance, was an ode to their unwavering spirit, from the initial strokes of planning to the crescendo of execution, seamlessly weaving Literaria into a beautiful garland. The inter-college collaboration made Literaria a melting pot of perspectives and literary prowess, a testament to its growing influence and reputation. Beyond intellectual pursuits, Literaria'23 celebrated the arts in all their forms. The air resonated with the melodies of bands like "The Hollows" and "Rocksy," creating a serene ambiance that complemented Literaria's theme. Dance performances, with precise footwork and expressive storytelling, added a visual symphony to the literary celebration. The arts took the limelight, highlighting the importance of a holistic celebration of creativity. The performances weren't just spectacles; they were expressions of the human spirit, echoing the essence of Literaria. It was a celebration where every stroke of the pen and every beat of the drum contributed to the grand narrative curated by the Deputy President.
A significant moment of Literaria'23 was the presence of the esteemed guest of honour, Shri Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, a distinguished Bengali writer. His literary odyssey, spanning genres and marked by a passion for children's literature, added a touch of magic to the event. In conversation with Deputy President Dr. Chandrani Biswas, Shri Mukhopadhyay shared wisdom and insights, enriching the literary minds in attendance. Their conversation wasn't just a dialogue; it was a meeting of minds, a sharing of literary journeys. Dr. Chandrani Biswas's adept handling of the authorial session ensured that the literary maestro's words resonated with every eager ear in the audience. As the event concluded, the stage was set for the prize distribution ceremony—an acknowledgment of the literary efforts of participants.
