Lakshmipat Singhania Academy hosts two major fests ‘Abhilakshya’ and ‘Bullionaire’

Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata hosted two of its major fests, Abhilakshya and Bullionaire together on 14 October and 15. A total of 18 events were held over the two days.

The fests began with an opening song by the school choir and a dance presentation followed by the speech of the chief guest Mr Biju Paul Ibrahim, professor of Public Policy at IIM Kolkata.

“Fests like Abhilakshya and Bullionaire allow students to participate and learn simultaneously from various events. I am glad that post-pandemic, students have shown their inclination more for such experiential events”, said Meena Kak, the school’s director. Jaya Misra, the vice principal also extended her vote of thanks.

The events held on the first day included CADENCE- a theme-based live song, dance and painting contest, which was judged by Susmita Chatterjee and Supratim Talukdar. M.P Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School performed on Bengali folk, and host school LSA showcased a presentation honouring the 75th year of Indian independence.

Additionally, the rest of the events were ‘JUST- a – MINUTE’where participants showcased talent ranging from dance to the theme, “Happiness” which was provided to the participants based on which they had to think of a story and create illustrations and cut-outs.

‘AMBROSIA’ was a non-gas cooking competition where participants worked in teams of two and prepared a snack item and a drink. The event was held both for the middle school and the senior school category. They were marked on the nutritive value of their dish as well as creativity.

‘DRAM-AT-EASE’ was a dramatic event where the participants were allotted topics randomly through a draw of lots. All the teams had 30 minutes to prepare. The schools presented their acts with multilingual dialogues and impressed the judges with their histrionics. Host school LSA got the topic “Not anymore” and portrayed unemployment and price rise in their presentation.

DOUBLE BALL DODGEBALL (BOYS) {Abhilakshya} – It was an event for classes 9 and 10. The students displayed an amazing array of talent, energy, and sportsmanship. The students of Lakshmipat Singhania Academy won the tournament.

STANDING KHO - KHO (GIRLS) {Abhilakshya}- it was a sports event for the girls of classes 9 and 10. It was an offbeat event that was added to boost the sportsmanship among the girls and bring out the player within them. It was again the host school, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy that won and The Calcutta Emmanuel School became the runner.

KEEP FIT (GIRLS) {Abhilakshya} – It was a fitness event consisting of different exercises and tests ranging from agility test, wall toss test, and yoga. Lakshmipat Singhania Academy bagged the first position and Kalyani Public School emerged as the runners-up.

FINANCIAL QUIZ {Bullionaire}—It was a quiz based on finance and the stock market. It was to test the knowledge of the students on business and commerce. South City International School emerged as the winner while Delhi Public School Megacity became the runners up.

VOLLEYBALL (BOYS) {Bullionaire} —The usual sport of volleyball was given a twist as an auction was held the day before where the players were betted upon and chosen by different schools. Lakshmipat Singhania Academy won the game.

The events of Abhilakshya and Bullionaire continued on the second day. Many schools across West Bengal took part in a total of six events that were scheduled on 15th October 2022. For the opening ceremony, the school choir performed a medley of songs.

The list of events on day 2 is as follows:

THROW BALL (BOYS) –A total of six matches were played. The host school, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy won the tournament.

TIC-TAC-TOE (GIRLS)—It was an innovative event, especially for the girls. The game which is usually played indoors was made into an outdoor event and played with different colors signifying the two different teams.

MINGLE WITH JINGLE –Students had to create a jingle on a given theme. They were given one minute and thirty seconds to present their activities. The judges were Priyanka Talukdar and Arpan Roy.

RELAY TREASURE HUNT - Students were divided according to their class groups. Thereafter each school was on a mission to hunt for a treasure by cracking clue card riddles and mathematical and literary problems.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP CARNIVAL (BULLIONAIRE) –It was a compulsory charity event for all the participating schools where there were teams of four. The task was to put up handicraft stalls and games for all and collect revenue from those who came to purchase items from their stalls. The participants, as well as the customers, thoroughly enjoyed the music and interesting games which were organised.

BULLS AND BEARS (BULLIONAIRE) –It was a simulated stock market event where the participants traded, based on real-time news updates and demand and supply. Within 5 rounds they bought and sold shares of different organisations. South City International School secured the first prize.

After a 2 days event filled with an adrenaline rush, the prize distribution was held. The 2nd runner up was – Army Public School, Barrackpore, 1st runner up – was Delhi Public School, Megacity, and the host school Lakshmipat Singhania Academy has been declared the winner. The fest was concluded with speeches by the President of Abhilakshya, the head boy, and the head girl singing the national anthem.
