AIESEC in Kolkata successfully hosted the Youth Speak Forum 2024 at the Bhawanipur Education Society College on June 18; uniting youth, industry leaders, and changemakers to champion Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event, aiming to inspire action and innovation for a sustainable future, received strong support from its esteemed sponsors: The Telegraph Online Edugraph as the digital media partner, The Pahadi Maa-ki-Ting as the digital marketing partner, 91.9 Friends FM as the radio partner, and associate sponsors Sangam Sherwani and Green Cove.

The event commenced with the national anthem and a lamp lighting ceremony, led by the speakers and the Local Committee President of AIESEC. Nandika Kedia and Jagriti Agarwal, Organising Committee Presidents of Youth Speak Forum 2024, officially inaugurated the event.

More than 100 delegates energised the forum with an opening jive by AIESEC. The event’s primary focus was on empowering youth to embrace leadership and self-improvement, equipping them with essential skills for today’s market while aligning these efforts with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sagar Daryani, CEO of Wow Momo, captivated the audience with his entrepreneurial journey, sharing the challenges and triumphs of expanding his franchise across 42 cities. He stressed the crucial role of customer experience and feedback in building a successful business.

The first panel discussion, featuring Aparajita Banerjee, Mitul Sheth, Armaan Jaiswal, Varnika Pasari, and Sloke Jaiswal, delved into generational contrasts between millennials and Gen Z. The discussion highlighted critical issues like financial scams, the impact of cyberbullying on social media, and the dual-edged sword of Artificial Intelligence. The panelists emphasised balancing AI’s productivity benefits with the need to maintain critical thinking and creativity, as well as the importance of stepping back from digital overload to nurture genuine human relationships. Award-winning author Ayan Pal, known for his novel ‘Crossed and Knotted’, guided the audience through a journey of inner self-reflection. He helped the youth identify their personality types and leverage their strengths to bring their best selves forward. Anuradha Jalan, founder of Green Cove, discussed integrating the 17 Sustainable Development Goals into her co-working space. She engaged the youth in brainstorming sessions on incorporating sustainable habits into everyday life, echoing the sentiment that ‘Every great journey starts with a simple step’.

The second panel discussion, titled ‘What Got You Here Won’t Get You There’, featured Jimmy Tangree, Prof Dilip Shah, Paul Neary, Rohini Das, and Mehal Jalan. Representing diverse industries, they shared their career paths, emphasising the necessity of innovation and flexibility. They encouraged the youth to embrace change and innovation as vital components of future success.

To further excite the delegates, AIESEC announced ongoing recruitments and various opportunities, particularly the International Exchange Programme. This programme offers global networking, leadership skills, and personal development, aligning with AIESEC’s commitment to fostering youth leadership and contributing to the SDGs. Youth Speak Forum 2024 served as a beacon of inspiration, urging the youth of Kolkata to take actionable steps towards sustainable development and personal growth.
