In a significant achievement, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has surged ahead in the QS World University Rankings 2025, securing the 4th position among Indian universities and claiming the 222nd spot globally. This remarkable ascent marks a leap of 49 places compared to its performance in 2024, cementing its position as a leading institution in higher education.

The QS World University Rankings 2025, compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), assessed 1503 universities worldwide, evaluating a total of 5663 institutions. IIT Kharagpur's standout performance can be attributed to its excellence across various parameters, including International Research Network, Sustainability, and Citations per Faculty.

Professor V K Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur, expressed pride in the institute's accomplishments, highlighting its commitment to advancing globalization standards through cutting-edge research and innovation.

He emphasized the institute's focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing systems, 5G networks, and safety engineering, aligning with the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

"IIT Kharagpur has upheld the nation’s resolve to excel in the standards of globalization with artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing systems and transportation, 5G Network, safety engineering and analytics, quality and reliability, affordable healthcare, precision agriculture, food nutrition and smart infrastructure to contribute towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat," said Prof Tiwari.

Underlining the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, including government agencies, private enterprises, and academic institutions, Prof Tewari stressed the need for leveraging digital economy opportunities and fostering technological expansions in areas like biomedical engineering.

IIT Kharagpur's initiatives, including Technological Research Parks, Centers of Excellence, and startup incubators, reflect its dedication to driving innovation and technological advancement in India.
