Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (HITK) recently organised its Students' Induction Programme Compass - 2024 for the 24th Batch of B.Tech students on August 14 at The Heritage campus. The programme continued till August 17. The programme was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Pushpito Kumar Ghosh , Former Director, Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute, who was present on the occasion as the Chief Guest. Sandeep Kumar, Managing Director, Tata Steel Downstream Products Ltd and Richa Singh Debgupta, Chief, Strategy & Operations, Fortis Healthcare Ltd were the Guests of Honour at the event.

The programme was also addressed by Shri Vikram Swarup, Vice Chairman, Heritage Group of Institutions, Shri PR Agarwala, Chairman, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, Prof Basab Chaudhuri, Principal, Heritage Institute of Technology, Prof Sujit Barua, Registrar, Heritage Institute of Technology, and PK Agarwal, CEO, Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata.

During the inaugural address, Prof Pushpito Kumar Ghosh motivated the students to keep their ambitions high and work hard.

"The future is very much uncertain. You should keep your ambitions high, be humble and work hard to reach your goals in life," said Prof Ghosh.

Sandeep Kumar, on the other hand spoke about the new skills today's engineers should possess to grab opportunities in the corporate world.

"As an engineer, you should be strong in your basics and at the same time should explore the world of AI & Quantum Computing which is coming up currently," said Mr. Sandeep Kumar.

Citing various examples from her own career and experience, Ms Richa Singh Debgupta advised the students not to procrastinate, at the same time work hard and be physically fit to embrace the new challenges in the future.

Confluence2024 - the parents' meet for the new batch of students was also organized on the same day. The event was addressed by Swami Vedatitanandaji Maharaj from Ramakrishna Mission Shilpamandira, Belur Math. During his address, Swamiji made the parents aware of the basic problems teenagers face in this modern world.

"As children grow up, parents should also grow. Socially they should connect with their child so that they are also aware of how students behave especially on social media and what type of friend circle they are attached and should be very careful before it is too late to get to know about the bad influence on your child," said Swamiji at the event.
