Heritage Institute of Technology organises HULT Prize

The Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata (HITK) hosted the On-Campus HULT HITK 2023 for the 5th time in a row. The One Million Dollar Start up Challenge is the world’s largest student competition for social entrepreneurship. Known as the ‘Nobel Prize for Students’ by media outlets world-wide, the HULT Prize is offered in partnership with former US President Mr. Bill Clinton and the Clinton Global Initiative.

A challenging topic is announced every year and the winners are announced in the month of September. The issue addressed this year was—Redesigning Fashion. The On-Campus winners then move on to the Quarter Finals and then following them Semi Finals, Global Accelerator and Global Finals.

The winners of the competition receive USD 1 Million capital, as well as mentorship and advice from the international business community. Each of the finalists receives funding along with membership to the Clinton Global Initiative. The event is hosted and supported by HULT International Business School, and funded by Swedish entrepreneur Bertil Hult.

HITK and HULT PRIZE have been in relation for the last 5 years. As part of the On Campus Program, students get the opportunity to train, educate and inspire themselves by building an impact community around On Campus events. The winning team from the program has a guaranteed spot at one of 25+ Regional Summits happening across the globe.

For this year’s event the Campus Director of HULT HITK 2023 was Subham Ghosh, a B.Tech student from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. He outshone other students in this post. Subsequently he had an active role in selecting the Organising Committee members.

The On-Campus round saw a large number of applications from students. The finals happened on 27 February. They were judged by experts from the areas of Organisational Behaviour, International HRM, qualitative inquiries from post structural frames with economy workers. The judges provided their valuable insights and suggestions to the participants.

The First prize was won by the team Reware who presented their business idea of upcycling where they are printing logos on T-shirts of famous YouTubers. The Second prize was bagged by the team De-Code, where they are offering buying and renting of fashion items through an e-commerce platform. The third prize was bagged by Fashion ninjas who presented a business idea of reducing fabric waste by the concept of cloth swapping and converting it into fabric which will be further transformed into a new one as per the recent trend.
