The great Nelson Mandela once said," Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
"Teaching is one of the oldest professions in this world. The importance of education has been recognised since the genesis of human civilisation. The transfer of knowledge from generation to generation is the key to development in the Society and Teachers play a key role in this transfer. Throughout history Teachers have played a role in shaping people’s character.
In the Indian Civilisation “Gurus” played a vital role. In fact students were considered as their own children and stayed in their house and were responsible for their mental, physical and intellectual growth.
In my opinion this role is as significant even today. The only thing is it is adapted to the modern age.
Henry Adams said, "A teacher affects eternity: he can never tell where his influence stops." The role of the teacher in the modern age has changed. A teacher wears countless hats. Teachers are like second parents and they play the role of a mother by playing a noteworthy role in shaping the life of the student. Sometimes the students open up more to a teacher and share lots than the real parents. Along with chalk and talk ,the teacher, like a mother, teaches the students life skills to face the challenges of life. That is the reason teachers sometimes become the second parents for the rest of the lives of the students. But throughout the ages teachers have been like mothers in the pre-primary days and junior school. It is said God could not be present everywhere hence God created mothers and I would say Mothers cannot be present everywhere hence God created Teachers. Of course we are talking about the ideal Teacher. Exceptions can be there, we have to accept facts, it is the teachers who are able to identify and guide the students.
The teacher takes the position of the mother – He/She protects, guides and nurtures the skills of the student like a mother, when they are entering an unknown zone of a journey called life.Teachers like mothers are also concerned about their all-round growth like a natural guardian. In my opinion every teacher is a mother in the classroom. I sincerely hope this terrific bond with the students should always be alive.
