Google Cloud Community Days, Kolkata 2023 was organised by the Google Developers Group Cloud Kolkata on 7 May 2023, at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre (BBCC). The auditorium was packed with 2700 attendees, comprising both students and professionals interested in the domain of technology.

The first part of the conference articulated the current scenarios of technological services and cloud development in Kolkata. All the speakers addressed the gap in academic knowledge and its implication of real-time implementation. The second half of the day saw the crowd separate into different groups in separate rooms addressing specific career domains, like Cloud Track, Web/Mobile Track, Career Track and more.

Sri Sanjay Kumar Das, Joint Secretary, IT&E Department and State Information Security Officer, West Bengal started the day with his keynote address. His session observed that ‘cloud’ is a community-driven security platform that is the need of the hour with the advent of virtualisation. He underscored that developers should accommodate it in the right space of utilisation for young learners. He also added that the same applies to Artificial Intelligence right now, especially in the public sphere.

In the context of AI, Das further told Edugraph that, “People should not jeopardise the habit of learning, as the AI platforms might charge for subscriptions in future when its demand will increase more and people should be prepared for that. But all the AI models are connecting two moral codes, i.e. general intelligence and human intelligence, which I personally see as a challenge and not a threat.”
Dipankar Chakrabarti, Executive Director & Data Control Office Leader – PwC India envisioned that cloud is the only enabler of emerging technologies, which is the key to planning the utilisation of data. Another keynote speaker, Avijit Patra, Director IT- Security at PwC India, cautioned the audience about privacy and the cloud. He further alerted that, “password is not the only door to secure data. Even after preserving data with a password, it might cross boundaries”. The basic way out of this is to use two factor-authentication security.

The final two lecture sessions encapsulated the technological challenges one faces at the initial stage of a startup and its subsequent problems with microservices.
Post-lunch, the attendees got bifurcated into the auditoriums, which held sessions of their interests and fulfilled the specific purposes of attending the conference. To summarise, the tracks broadly dealt with conflicts of aspirations and the channel to pursue each as a profession.
“This event helps us identify newer ideas from students and fresh graduates to understand their exposure to current technological parameters. We seek for people to upgrade our platform’s back-end system to enhance audience experiences,” said Aloke Majumder, VP of Technology at hoichoi.

The purpose of these segments was to continue the discourse on distinctive ideas of ‘cloud’ and address specific queries of the students. They also served as opportunities for students to interact with professionals at all levels, ranging from large corporations to small-scale startups, thereby providing professional enrichment for all.
