Google Developer Group (GDG Kolkata) in association with Women Techmakers Kolkata (WTM Kolkata) celebrated International Women’s Day on 11 March 2023 with their event, “Dare To Be an Entrepreneur: IWD 2023” at RCC Institute of Information Technology.

The event was centered on the occasion of International Women’s Day, where there were distinguished guests, speakers, and event attendees, sharing their stories and journeys of being an entrepreneur and the motivation that drives them towards working in the field of technology.

The event had six sessions in total, all of which were catered to various topics on entrepreneurship, technologies, and tech career. The event started with a session by Ms Rohini Lodge where she spoke about the challenges and yet the most exciting part of being an entrepreneur, with the title being ‘Don’t be an Entrepreneur’.

It was followed by a technical session by Ms Aharna Haque with a focus on APIs and API calling titled, ‘How to convert API calling to Unit Test Cases and Mocks”. And on the third session, Ms Naina Singh spoke about her entrepreneurial journey from being a student to building a company in the field of robotics, which is one of its kind in East India.

In the fourth session, Anshika and Shivangi, two college students took to the stage to share their ideas and experiences of being a graphics designer. In the fifth session, Dr Anwesha Ghosh gave an insightful talk on being a Product Manager, and what it takes to build a career in Product Management. The session concluded with Ms Bhaswati Roy, a pre-final student who shared her journey and the opportunities that are present for anyone, especially for women, who are willing to dive into the field of tech.

It was an eventful day attended by college students, as well as industry professionals. There were networking sessions in between and discussions were largely focused on tech careers and entrepreneurship.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is Women Techmakers’ largest annual event campaign where distinguished women from all walks of life come around and talk about technology built by women for women.

This year GDG Kolkata, in association with WTM Kolkata, brought an exciting journey where they hosted sessions about how women can start their journey in entrepreneurship, the challenges they might face, and the resilient mind that one needs to thrive in this field.
