When we think of cruises, what comes to our mind first? We’re probably thinking of gorgeous waterside views, dining experiences, and fun.

Believe it or not, cruises make an ideal out-of-school school for children. From onboard activities like vegetable cutting, napkin folding, table layout to practical activities planned for a hands-on experiential learning to onshore excursion to Belur Math, we covered it all ! The students were taught why it is important to learn about other cultures, had a session on meditation and enjoyed the natural environment. Almost everything about the cruise offered a teaching moment.

M V Matsakanya, the name of our vessel and all the crew members had become teachers, for a while. Everything was new, unique and adventurous in the on-board learning trip.

We had stopped at Belur Math for a detour which had historical significance.

The sail ended with a sumptuous breakfast for children on the way back to Millennium Park.

The opportunity to participate and interact on such a cruise was an outstanding one! A lot of integrated learning happened as there was geography, history, environmental science, hospitality and management that had been taught simultaneously, yet DIFFERENTLY!
