Epsilon Delta 2023: An exceptionally significant event by Statistics Dept. of SXC, Kolkata

The Department of Statistics, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata has established colossal of glory and acclamation over the past decades. Every year the esteemed department organizes the annual event - Epsilon Delta. This year Epsilon Delta was successfully commemorated on 2nd March 2023 with unanimous efforts of students under the able guidance of faculty members. The theme for Epsilon Delta'23 was ' Exceeding Expectations'. The event witnessed the launch of the 15th edition of Prakarsho, the annual departmental magazine, edited by our Editor-in-Cheif Mr. Srijan Sen, that has inherited the legacy of the Department of Statistics for years.

The Inaugural ceremony was adorned with the presence of honorable dignitaries - Dr. Farhat Bano, Dean of Arts, Dr. Durba Bhattacharya, Head of the Department of Statistics, Dr. Bertram Da Silva, Vice Principal, Arts and Science, Dr. Partha Pratim Ghosh, Coordinator, IQAC, Dr.Tapati Dutta, Dean of Science, Dr. Ayan Chandra, Member Secretary, Academic Council (following from the left). The opening ceremony gained momentum with a special address by renowned dignitaries and the launch of the 15th edition of Prakarsho. With this, the event took a splendid start. Epsilon delta'23 witnessed a silhouette of versatility in the form of creative events under the guidance of our Event Head Ms. Mehuli Bhandari, the following events:

• Proectura: Students' Paper Presentation Event

• Inquizzitive: Quiz Event

• Analyticon: Data Visualization Event

• Datathon: Hackathon Event based on a statistical theme

• Imposter: Poster-Making Competition

• Focinova: Photography Competition which was held through social media

In addition to these creative and statistically speaking 'well-defined events', respected guests of honors delivered their words of wisdom in the domain of statistics addressing the students.

Professor Anil Kumar Ghosh, Statistics and Mathematics Unit, Indian Statistical Institute on - A Brief Introduction to Machine learning.

The conclusion of the two enthralling talks was followed by the Felicitation and Closing ceremony which comprised of our venerable dignitaries and faculty members of the department felicitating the students for their noteworthy and diligent contribution in making the event a grand success and concluding speech with a special vote of thanks by Xavier Abhishek Rozario, Student Convenor, Epsilon Delta 2023. Every year the successful celebration of Epsilon Delta is an outcome of the joint venture undertaken by the constant efforts and diligence undertaken by students along with the precious efforts and advice of all the faculty members which together bring out the best.

The closing ceremony was followed by Cultural Performance, headed by Mr. Yuvraj Dutta. The cultural program had many aspects of creativity like - Drama, the symphony evoked by melodious choirs, hymns of beautiful recitation, classical and western music, and elegant dance performances with a perfect amalgamation of eastern and western art forms.

With this Epsilon, Delta'23 came to an end. With concordant efforts, the event was no doubt successful in adhering to its prime motto - ' Exceeding Expectations '. When it comes to real life, we often confine our capabilities shackled and enforced within the barriers of never-converging expectations, real growth starts when we break through these barriers and await all obstacles with dignity. Adhering to this motto, Epsilon Delta'23 definitely exceeded all of our expectations with its magnificence and all we envision is for Epsilon Delta to continue evoking its noteworthy impact over the impending years as well.
