In a bid to support the underprivileged and marginalised students studying at Dr Grahams Homes, a residential school in the Kalimpong district of North Bengal, the school authorities organised a Christmas Carnival on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Birkmyre Hostel in Kolkata.

The fund-raiser event witnessed the presence of several former students across all age groups of Dr Grahams Homes who reminisced about their old days at the school.

"Dr Grahams Homes is a 125-year-old institution primarily founded for the destitute Anglo-Indian children. This carnival is called 'Carnival for a cause'. The idea is to raise a fund through this carnival which goes back to Dr Grahams Homes to provide for the children's needs," said Shane Calvert, Former Chairman and presently Member of the board of Governors at Dr Grahams Homes School.

"In this carnival, the ex-students set up stalls, consisting of food and gifting items. Some of them also come and sing Christmas carols, perform as a band and the visitors have a wonderful time," he added.

Twenty students from the Dr Grahams Home School were also seen performing in the carnival as part of the school choir.

"At Dr Graham's Homes School, the needy children are supported. We were lucky to have been provided support during our school days, which enabled us to complete our studies. Now, we are trying to do the same for the younger generation," said Jerome Dias, an ex-student of the school.

"Coming here alone takes us back to the golden days that we spent at Dr Grahams Homes during our days there. It is a wonderful feeling. This year, I am admitting my five-year-old son to Dr Grahams Homes and it is a proud moment for me as a father," he added.

The carnival was visited by the Santa Clause later in the evening who brought in gifts for the children arriving at the carnival. He was also seen happily posing with the children for photographs.
