Delhi Public School Ranchi, renowned for its commitment to nurture young leaders, recently hosted IIMUN Jharkhand 2023 in association with India's International Movement to the United Nations. The conference was held on campus from August 4th to August 6th August, 2023; divided into three main sections: on the first day, the opening ceremony was organised at Vivekananda Auditorium, which was attended by Dr. Asha Lakra, BJP National Secretary and Former Mayor, Ranchi, Jharkhand, Col. Ranjit Singh (Retd.), Major General Manoj Kumar (Retd.) of the Indian Army who is an Ati Vishisht Seva Medal winner, Dr. Pawan Diwedi, Career Coach and Motivational Speaker and Dr. Ram Singh, Principal, DPS Ranchi. The opening ceremony featured inspiring speeches by prominent guests, setting the tone for the diplomatic educational extravaganza.
They acknowledged the efforts made by DPS Ranchi in initiating and fostering such conferences at its premises. Further, they congratulated Principal Dr Ram Singh for being his earnest and energetic pursuit for innovation. Such conferences provide young minds to think critically and envision a world where cooperation and understanding prevail. It will also infuse the discipline, confidence, analytical ability and problem solving competency in students. Furthermore, Students will learn about the world as they prepare for Model UN conferences, represent countries other than their own, and present possible solutions to global problems. Model United Nation Conferences serve as a premier platform in grooming the Global Citizens. Participating in MUNs will work as an asset when students apply for colleges and jobs. In this interdependent world, MUN makes for informed global citizens who not only understand the decisions their nation makes but also know how those changes affect politics regionally, nationally and globally. They also shared the importance of joining public services. Various cultural programs were also organised on the day.

More than 300 delegates from different educational institutions gathered to debate diverse global issues and current trends on the second day of the sessions for IIMUN Jharkhand 2023. The young delegates demonstrated exceptional research skills, critical thinking and persuasive oratory as they advocated for their assigned countries’ stances. The second day was graced by Dayamani Barla - an Indian tribal journalist and activist from the Indian state of Jharkhand, Manoj Kumar Singh, Journalist & Professor Editor, Green Revolt and Ms. Premlata Aggarwal - first Indian woman mountaineer to scale the Seven Summits, the seven highest continental peaks of the world as the revered guests.
There were a total of 11 committees during the conference, each of which addressed a different subject like Lok Sabha- Questioning the rise of city based ‘Education hubs’ in India, AIPPM – Question of National Language, JLA – Creating a framework to bridge the economic disparity in the state, JPC- Roadmap to deal with rising unemployment, UNESCO- Discussing the viability of a common universal education, UNEP- Dealing with Global waste management, UNW- The question of ‘Pink Tax’, DISEC – The recent developments in hypersonic missile technology with special emphasis on the Anti-Ballistic missile treaty 1972, Influencer Summit – Discussing the influence of Social media on Mental health, IPL- Mega auctions and ICIJ – Press and media. The participants skillfully negotiated, collaborated and compromised to draft resolutions that aimed to create a positive impact on the world.
The final day of IIMUN Jharkhand 2023, a spiritual day, commenced with yoga, followed by joy, entertainment, conferences, debating, and much more, and culminated with the award ceremony. The learners acquired priceless lessons that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives from this wonderful event that was packed with knowledge, networking, socials, and inspiration.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ram Singh thanked the organising Council members for initiating such an innovative event and said that students by participating in such an event learn leadership skills, empathy, global awareness and organising skills. “There is no other way to deal with Global Challenges, than with Global Responses. And these global responses can be fetched only when we nurture Global Citizens across the globe”, he added.
Overall, the IIMUN Jharkhand 2023 event was very educational and knowledge-filled, and gave delegates a forum to discuss a range of world concerns and current trends. The committees were completely captivating and thought-provoking, and the participants left the conference realising greater detail about the challenges that were at hand.
