ECONCLAVE 2024, an Inter-School Seminar on Contemporary Economics, organised for understanding quality Economics for future India, at Delhi Public School Megacity, Kolkata on 27 July, 2024, was an ensemble of 18 premier institutions across West Bengal.

The Chief Guest of the programme was Dr. Arijita Dutta, Professor in the Department of Economics, University of Calcutta, an alumnus of Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and the University of Calcutta.

Adhering to the long standing tradition of the school, the programme initiated with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, in the gracious presence of Mrs. Tilottoma Mallik, the Vice Principal, Mrs. Suman Singh Ganguly, the General Manager, Mr. Anirban Roy, the Middle and Senior School Headmaster, Mr. Jude Baptist, the Junior School Headmaster, Mrs. Carol Anthony, the Pre-Primary Headmistress, Dr. Kalyan Basu and Mr. Chandidas Chattopadhyay, the Senior Academic Co-ordinators and Mrs. Shuvashree Mukherjee, the Middle School Co-ordinator and Co-Curricular Co-ordinator.

To adjudge the intellectual symposium, Dr. Saswatee Mukherjee (Assistant Professor, Presidency University) and Dr. Prithwiraj Guha (Assistant Professor, Presidency University) graced the occasion.

The various participating schools were, Don Bosco Liluah, Central Modern School, DPS Ruby Park, Adamas International School, DPS Newtown, Garden High School, Our Lady Queen of The Mission School, National English School, Pramila Memorial Advanced English School, The BSS School , The Heritage, DPS Megacity and many more.

The budding economists were motivated by the invigorating words of the Vice Principal, Mrs. Tilottoma Mallik and the Middle and Senior School Headmaster, Mr. Anirban Roy.

Through exemplary presentations, the participants deliberated on the current Economic issues like, the rise of the Korean wave in India: Impact on the consumer product industry, India’s evolving CSR landscape: Impactful initiatives and future outlook, Prospects of AI in a labour surplus economy like India, India’s gold market at crossroads: Balancing demographic dividends and evolving economic dynamics, Rising of Gig Economy in India, Prospects and challenges of Rural entrepreneurship in India etc.

Each presentation was rich and vivid with graphic power-point presentations and eloquent deliberations.

The young minds also exhibited remarkable wit and grit in tackling challenging questions posed by the esteemed judges.

The Best Power-Point presentation was awarded to Vision International School. Don Bosco Liluah and DPS Ruby Park secured the 2nd and 3rd position respectively in this category.

The Best Speaker was from DPS Megacity followed by G.D. Goenka and Sushila Birla Girls High School who secured the 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

The Best Research award was given to Central Modern School, Baranagar, and Vivekananda Mission School and Garden High School secured the 2nd and 3rd position respectively in this category.

The overall winner of this symposium was DPS Megacity Kolkata followed by the 1st Runner Up, Satish Chandra Memorial School and 2nd Runner Up, National English School.

The programme culminated with the vote of thanks by the Senior School Headmaster who thanked profusely each and every member, the management, the Co-ordinators, the teaching and non-teaching staff, the participating schools and their esteemed Principals, the facility staff whose support and cooperation led to the resounding success of this event.
