Dept of Journalism and Mass Communication, Women's College, Calcutta organises VOXPOP

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Women's College, Calcutta, hosted its annual fest, VOXPOP, on September 24. The event, held on campus, showcased the talents of both students and faculty, fostering a spirited atmosphere.

One highlight was the feature writing segment, where students expressed their views on three recently enacted news laws by the Union Government: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. Participants debated whether these laws favor the people or the government, encouraging critical thought and engagement with current issues.

The event also featured an inspiring pep talk from an alumnus, alongside a quiz competition hosted by two other alumni. The quiz, themed around cinema in honour of World Bollywood Day, captivated the audience with its seven engaging rounds. Students from Semester V emerged as the winners, while Semester I and Semester III students secured the runner-up and first runner-up positions, respectively.

Dr Anupama Chowdhury, Principal of Women's College, emphasized the department's commitment to holistic development. "The journalism department is not only fostering student growth but also contributing to societal advancement," she noted.

The fest was well-attended by faculty members, including IQAC Coordinator Dr Shukla Ghosh, highlighting the collective support for student initiatives. Overall, VOXPOP served as a platform for creative expression and learning, reinforcing the department's role in nurturing informed and engaged citizens.
