CISCE hosted 25th Sporting Event with an inaugural Kabaddi game at Julien Day School, Kalyani

The Council is of the firm belief that there should be a “holistic development of a child in body, mind and spirit.” It is with this approach in mind that kabaddi was introduced as the 25th Sporting Event for Individual and Team Events. This Inaugural Kabaddi for girls under the aegis of was held at Julien Day School, Kalyani from the 25th of September to the 27th of September with great fanfare, pomp and show. Eight combined regions of various states were represented in full strength for this CICSE National Meet. Approximately 250 girls in the age group of Under 14, Under 17 and Under 19 vied for the top honours.

The opening day commenced with a splendid, well-choreographed Inaugural Classical Dance performed by the students of Julien Day School, Kalyani. An Oath was taken by the Captains of all teams. Then the League Stage began with all three age groups playing simultaneously on three standard, nationally prescribed Kabaddi mats.

The event was attended by Mr Ranjan Mitter Principal Coordinator for Sports and Games for CISCE, Mr Arnab Das Coordinator for Sports and Games, Chairman of Julien Day Schools Mr J. G. Broughton and his wife Mrs S. Broughton, Mr Subroto Chattopadhyay Principal and Convenor for ISC for Kalyani Region, Mr Dominic Gomes and Mr Gurmmaku Samuel Davis Principal and Vice Principal of Assembly of Christ School and Mr Arko Majumdar Financial Advisor of the Julien Day Schools.

The display of grit, determination, tenacity, agility, and trained skills of offence and defence were all on display throughout the competition. Eventually, the top honours in the Under 14 Category went to Karnataka, the Under 17 category to Karnataka and the Under 19 category to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Kabaddi is a very physical game, conduction of the matches is an integral part of the tournament. To do so, we had the technical expertise of the West Bengal Association for Kabaddi to ensure the implementation of the Rules and Regulations laid down by the CISCE.

The Games indeed were a grand success considering the colossal organization of fleets of transport, sumptuous meals and temporary living accommodations that needed to be put in place. Principal Mr. Terence John with his able leadership and the unstinted support from the teachers, office Staff, IT department and support staff ensured that that the standard requirements for organizing and conducting a national event were duly met.

The closing ceremony of prize distribution, song and dance met with even greater enthusiasm and fervour. The sound of music ensured that all on-court rivalry dissipated in seconds. Not just the students, but even coaches and managers shook a leg. Sporting their glittering medallions and carrying their shining trophies, many carrying fond memories left the Julien Day Kalyani premises with the hope of a bright future.
