Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM) - a Unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India - engaged in popularizing and promoting science since 1959, especially among the youth through various interactive models, exhibitions, educational programmes and activities throughout the year – is now inaugurating 03 new Science & Technology facilities for students, research scholars and general visitors.
This includes the Television Gallery, an outdoor enclave featuring busts of Indian women scientists and a National Science & Technology Digital Archive.
The facilities will be inaugurated by Dr CV Ananda Bose, Governor of West Bengal. Prof Abhijit Chakrabarti, Former Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University and Chairman of the Executive Committee, BITM and Prof SC Roy, Chairman of the Steering Committee, National S&T Digital Archive; Member, National Commission of History of Science (INSA) will also be present on the occasion.
The television gallery will reflect the evolution of television as a medium of personalized household entertainment, through 20 state-of-the-art interactive exhibits, models, diorama and artefacts in an educative and informative ambience. With this interactive and educational display, BITM ensures that visitors of all ages remain connected with the evolution of entertainment technology.
On the other hand the fibre-glass reinforced models featuring the life and works of the following acclaimed Indian women scientists and their contributions to the Sciences against all struggles and oddities will be displayed. This includes Dr Rajeshwari Chatterjee, Engineering, Dr Kamal Ranadive, Biologist, Dr Darshan Ranganathan, Organic Chemist, Dr Prof Archana Sharma, Botanist, Dr Bibha Chowdhuri, Physicist, Dr Asima Chatterjee, Chemist, Dr Anna Mani, Meteorologist, Dr Irawati Karve, Anthrolologist, Dr Kadambini Ganguly, Physician and Dr EK Janaki Ammal, Botanist & Plant Cytologist.
The third facility will be an evolving archive for collection and preservation of the intellectual legacy of Indian scientists, engineers, technology pioneers and medical researchers who shaped modern India - providing an authentic window into our scientific past, serving as both a research resource and a testament to India's journey for the development of Science and Technology.
AD Choudhury, Director General, NCSM will deliver the Welcome Address while the Vote of Thanks will be offered by Subhabrata Chaudhuri, Director, BITM, Kolkata.
