To commemorate the 459th birth anniversary of the "Bird of Avon," children at St. Augustine's Day School Barrackpore embraced literature and participated in a variety of fun-filled literary activities, bringing the audience on an emotional roller coaster. The Literary Club, in partnership with the Quiz and Drama Clubs of the school, organised the event on 29 April 2023.
Each participant was given a platform to express their affection and love for creativity and artistry, which elicited a murmurous purr of happiness and fulfilment from everyone."Words allow your imagination to soar like an eagle." One such embedded vision to break down prejudices and document evolution was a performance of William Shakespeare's "The Seven Ages of Man" by Class 6 students.
Shakespeare's stories are better renowned for their capacity to draw readers into a world of intimacy and attachment while at the same time being lucidly articulate and morally magnificent. The Class 7 students deep dive into Bard's Sonnets held the entire audience transfixed in their seats during the presentation.
Class 8 participated in an inter-house quiz competition on William Shakespeare with the goal of gauging their level of academic and general knowledge. Classes 9 and 10 also gave speeches from the well-known plays Julius Caesar and The Merchant of Venice. Class 12 presented a still from The Tempest while class 11 performed "The Dagger Scene" from The Tragedy of Macbeth.
The celebration came to a solemn close with the awarding of prizes and the felicitation ceremony. The two judges, Mrs. Pritha Chakrobarty, a Postgraduate Coordinator in the English Department at Maulana Azad College in Kolkata, and Mrs. Anupama Maitra, an Associate Professor of English at Gour Mohan Sachin Mandal Mahavidyala, both of which are affiliated with the University of Calcutta, were warmly welcomed by the staff.
