The Amity National Moot Court Competition, 2023 (ANMCC’23) took place on the 28 and 29 of April, 2023 at Amity University, Kolkata. It was a groundbreaking event as it was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing teams to participate both in person and online. Building on the success of previous State-level Moots, the Moot Court Society of Amity Law School, Kolkata, undertook the ambitious goal of organising a national-level Moot Court Competition under the guidance of the Faculty-Convenor, Prof Ishani Das & Co Convenor Prof Priyanka Biswas. The focal point of the competition was the issue of demonetization and its relation to Administrative Law.

The finals, graced by the distinguished presence of esteemed judges from the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta were the highlight of the event. The semi-finals, conducted in an online mode, were adjudicated by a panel of esteemed judges from reputable law firms and courts. The judges included Mr. Khan, Partner at Ashlar Law, a Senior Associate at Sidley Austin LLP, joining virtually from Geneva, and distinguished Senior Counsels at the Supreme Court of India and the High Court at Delhi. While the Preliminary Rounds were conducted online, the Quarterfinals were presided over by esteemed Judges who graced the campus in person. They included eminent Senior Counsels of the High Court at Calcutta and leading In Houses of the country along with other Solicitors.

During the inaugural address of the prestigious ANMCC, 2023, Prof (Dr) Sanjay Kumar, The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor said that Mooting is the most specialised art of advocacy that teaches students how to present their arguments and counter arguments before the high-powered esteemed bench of judges. He further added that Law is one of the most noble profession and it should be promoted through simulated court like “Moot Court” that instils the confidence among mooters and teaches them how to put themselves into the shoes of the petitioner and the respondents and present their arguments in most logical and sequential manner. On this auspicious occasion, he congratulated the winners and all the participants.

The competition continued with the virtual draw of lots, exchange of memorials, and the Researcher's Test. The smooth functioning of the hybrid mode can be attributed to the state-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge technology of Amity University, Kolkata. ANMCC’23 was a resounding success, thanks to the unflinching support of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Sanjay Kumar. The dedication and hard work of the Core Committee and Organizing Committee, headed by Student-Convenor Drishti Banerjee, and Student Co-Convenor Vidhi Birmecha, also deserve special mention. ANMCC'23 was a testament to the vision of transformative education at Amity University.

The team from KIIT School of Law, comprising Swastik Sekhar Panigrahi, Taranjeet Singh, and Aiswarya Sahu, emerged victorious in the competition. Brainware University secured the First Runner-Up position. Samriddhi Sinha from Brainware University won the Best Speaker award, while Arijit Kundu from Heritage Law College won the Best Researcher prize. The Best Memorial Prize was awarded to Dharmashastra National Law University. The ANMCC'23 also recognized the contributions of the alumni of Amity University, who judged the Preliminary Rounds. The event's main sponsor, Ashlar Law, and partners, including 91.9 Friends Fm, Digital Media Partner The Telegraph Online Edugraph and Kamal Law House, were acknowledged for their support. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Prof Banhita Sarkar, the Head of the Department, Amity Law School, Kolkata, officially closing the event.
