India is emerging to be one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, the need for skilled managerial professionals is rising. Schools are therefore expected to develop and harness such capabilities among students at Secondary level and Senior Secondary Level.
Keeping this in view and the tradition to broaden the horizons of the students, Respected Chairperson Dr. (Mrs) Amita Chauhan and Principal Divya Bhatia have encouraged the students to participate in Wharton High School Investment Competition. Haven Finance, a team of seven immaculate and curious students from Amity International School, Saket have qualified and will now be competing in the semifinals of the Competition. It is one of the top 55 teams out of a total participating 1400 teams and with students from 64 countries participating, it is no easy feat making it to this stage.
The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania announced the semifinalists for the Wharton Global High School Investment Competition. Run annually, by the Wharton Global Youth Program, it is a unique and exciting contest for high schoolers to explore the enormously invigorating world of finance.
The members of the team worked hard under the able guidance of their advisor and with the school’s support and infrastructure, the team was chosen on the basis of the strength of their investment knowledge, creativity, and teamwork.
“Every year it is a refreshing experience to see a new bunch of students with new ideas, approaches, and skill sets participate, but team Haven Finance demonstrated remarkably exceptional creativity and passion for financial literacy and the competition that truly set them apart.”, says Ms. Monica Thareja, Chief Advisor to the team. She added, “The competition is an eye-opener and really exposes the students to real-time challenges that investors and portfolio managers face when making quality investments. It expands the horizons for financial knowledge and this year it has been a pleasure working together with such an enthusiastic group of students who are working even harder now to make the school and country proud on the international stage.”
STATEMENT FROM THE TEAM
“The intricate world of responsible finance is opened to us and we are invited with open arms. While the assignment at first seems predominantly Herculean, even us students who are trying their hand for the first time at investing and wealth management eventually find it quite simple to navigate waters that only get deeper and deeper. Our school, Amity International School, Saket, was a tremendous support. From arranging sessions with professionals to informal workshops with past teams, the school and our advisor, Ms. Monica Thareja dreamed with us of going straight to the finals. That is why it was the best news when we got to know we would compete in the Semi-finals. Wharton Global High School Investment Competition was a dynamic experience and the learnings from it would help throughout life, no matter which field we decide to pursue. We are more motivated than ever and will definitely give our best shot to reach the finals!”
