To match the environmental and industrial needs of the current decade, Techno India University, West Bengal has launched one of Eastern India’s first full-time Master’s programmes (M Tech) in Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology.

Students with a B Tech degree are eligible to apply for the multidisciplinary course. The course curriculum is an amalgamation of both theoretical and experiential learning. Apart from classroom learning, students will be provided with hands-on experience that will, in turn, help them in the professional world.

Emphasizing the unique features of the programme, executive director and chief innovation officer of Techno India Group Meghdut RoyChowdhury said, “The scope of the course is interdisciplinary and future-proof. Since we all know that the move to sustainable mobility through electric vehicles is inevitable and the need of the hour, Techno India University is all set to educate the future leaders of our country. Today, if we assist 20 individuals in becoming educated, tomorrow they will assist 20 others and so on.”

The curriculum – developed by the departments of Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering – is designed to impart knowledge on electric vehicles, design and manufacture of sustainable and clean electric vehicles, basics of battery-driven electric vehicles and their dynamics, motors, power electronics, batteries, regulatory frameworks and safety guidelines, along with performance improvement for research work to drive the future.

Industrial experts, entrepreneurs, start-up owners and professionals who have ties with international universities and companies will teach the students and promote real-time learning.

Upon completion of the course, the students will enter the sprawling EV ecosystem that caters to the job demands of component makers, embedded software firms, OEMs and charging service providers.

Besides gaining exposure and opportunities, the students will also gain an idea of the drawbacks of current testing procedures for electric and hybrid vehicles by international testing agencies. They will have knowledge of the challenges and regulations for meeting the safety requirements at the international level.

The objective is to provide greater flexibility to students, allow them to take courses across disciplines and build towards expertise in modern interdisciplinary areas that will define the future of engineering and technology.
