JEE Main 2025: NTA makes important announcement for PWD & PwBD candidates requiring scribe

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released certain guidelines for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates going to appear in the JEE Main 2025. A notification has been issued by the agency in this regard.

As per the official notification, candidates with disabilities (PwD and PwBD) will receive an additional hour of compensatory time for the three-hour JEE Mains 2025 exam. This means they will have a total of up to four hours to complete the paper. Additionally, the option for a scribe will be available upon presentation of the appropriate certificates.

“The National Testing Agency has been receiving several inquiries on issues related to scribe and compensatory time for PwD/PwBD candidates. The guidelines which will be followed for JEE Main with reference to relevant extracts of Government Notification and Office Memorandums are enumerated below,” NTA stated in the official notification.

The NTA also mentioned that the word 'Extra Time or additional time' should be changed to 'compensatory time'. This compensatory time should not be less than 20 minutes per hour of exam for persons who are allowed use of scribe / reader / lab assistant.

Hence, NTA will be providing candidates eligible for availing the facility an additional time of minimum of one hour for examination of 3 hours irrespective of whether the use scribe or not.

"All the PwBD candidates who are eligible for availing the facility may be allowed additional time of minimum of one hour for examination of 3 hours whether they use the facility or not. Additional time should not be less than five minutes and should be in the multiple of five,” said NTA in its notification.
