Starting from the academic session 2024-2025, universities across the country will have the option to use National Eligibility Test (NET) scores for admissions to PhD programmes, replacing the need for separate entrance tests conducted by individual institutions. This initiative aims to streamline the admissions process and enhance accessibility for candidates.

The NET, conducted biannually, will offer greater flexibility to candidates, enabling them to use their scores from either session to apply for PhD programmes across various institutions.

By adopting NET scores, this initiative aims to reduce the pressure on candidates, eliminating the necessity to prepare and appear for multiple entrance tests conducted by different institutions. Additionally, the biannual administration of NET provides candidates with increased opportunities to get admission to their desired PhD programmes.
