Jamia Millia Islamia’s (JMI) department of Education, Training and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education has organised a day-long online workshop on Low Vision Impairment Awareness. 

The inaugural session of the workshop, which was held on February 5, had course coordinator Faizullah Khan introducing the experts speaking on the topic to the head of the department and teachers. Programme coordinator Saurabh Ray emphasized on the purpose and process of the workshop, and department head Naheed Zahoor wished for the success of the programme.  

In the first session of the workshop, Sonia Srivastava, chief of Dr. Shroff Charity Eye Hospital, highlighted the eye problems which are responsible for different vision impairments. Giving priority to cleanliness, health and regular check-up, she emphasized on the development of healthy eyes in a conscious society.

In the second session, Naseem Akhtar, chief optometrist at Dr. Shroff Charity Eye Hospital, discussed the measures in which optical and non-optical equipment were present, emphasizing on the availability of equipment while clarifying government guidelines. He also stressed on the introduction of newly manufactured smart glasses by IIT Bangalore in 2021, which will be beneficial for those with low vision impairment.

Concluding the session, course coordinator Mohammad Faizullah Khan congratulated the organising team for achieving the objectives of the workshop. The participants presented their positive and encouraging thoughts.
