The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad inaugurated a 1,50,000 sq ft Technology Research Park on February 5 to help bridge the gap between industry and academia.

The technology park aims to provide infrastructure and facilities for industry partners to set up Research and Technology Development centres on the IIT Hyderabad campus.

The Rs 75-crore park, funded by the Union Ministry of Education, will feature word-class facilities — 11 individual towers of different levels connected with corridors, a laboratory complex comprising seven footprint blocks interconnected with covered corridors.

Srivari Chandrasekhar, secretary, Department of Science of Technology, government of India, inaugurated the facility. “Let me assure that the government of India is committed to technological development as presented by the Union financial Minister during Budget 2022. Hyderabad is a very vibrant entrepreneur ecosystem. These TRP (Technology Research Park) and TIP (Technology Incubation Park) buildings conceived by IIT Hyderabad director B.S. Murty are testimonial facilities for those who can’t work at home. I urge our youth to go from job-seekers to job-givers and all premier institutes to work on non-software technologies. IITs are pioneer technological institutes in the country and IIT Hyderabad is exceptional among them with the unique instinct to make remarkable,” Chandrasekhar said.

B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, chairman, board of governors at IIT Hyderabad; Saito Mitsunori, chief representative, JICA; Shingo Miyamoto, minister of economic and development, Embassy of Japan; B.S. Murty, director, IIT Hyderabad; K.V.L. Subramaniam, dean (planning), IIT Hyderabad; and Ch Subrahmanyam, FIC, TRP, attended the event.

“We are grateful to the education ministry for providing financial support to the project. The motto of IIT Hyderabad is Inventing and Innovating in Technology for Humanity. Our Technology Research Park is in sync with our motto. I am confident that this would be a cradle for strong and long-term industry-IITH collaboration to realize Atma Nirbhar Bharat. I am also hopeful that technology park will help grow our international relations with several global industries. We are happy to have Suzuki Motor Company coming forward to set up Suzuki Innovation Centre (SIC). I hope we will have many more such collaborations in future,” Murty said.
