The Radiation Oncology department at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar will soon provide conformal radiation treatment to cancer patients. It will install another Dual Energy Linear Accelerator having cutting-edge contemporary technology for cancer treatment. 

It is assumed that with the addition of the second machine, the patient waiting time for diagnosis and treatment will be reduced with the quality of treatment getting higher. The work is expected to be completed by Jan 2023 and the machine will be clinical after getting its due approval from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai.

On Monday, the machine installation process was started at the bunker site by AIIMS Bhubaneswar executive director Ashutosh Biswas in the presence of Dilip Kumar Parida, head of the department (HOD), Radiation Oncology and other officials and faculty members. The machine will be equipped with advanced technologies of modern-age radiotherapy like SBRT, SRS, SRT, IMRT, IGRT and all kinds of adaptive radiotherapy.

In 2021, the department treated more than 25,000 cancer patients through chemo, radiotherapy and pain and palliative therapy.
