Mass Communication: Courses, institutes, scope and job roles

Mass Communication is applied to disseminate a message to a large group of people through the media. This discipline covers a lot of communication channels like Journalism, Advertising and Media Studies. A career in this field would enable you to work in different sectors using a range of communication mediums. 
 

Studying Mass Communication 

• You need to complete your Class XII board exams with 50% aggregate in any stream.
• After passing your board exams, you can pursue graduation in Mass Communication.
• You can also choose to pursue an undergraduate degree in any other subject like English, Journalism, Economics, Political Science or even Engineering from a recognised university with 60% aggregate.

• After completion of your graduation, you can pursue a master’s degree in Mass Communication. 
• You can also choose to pursue a PG diploma in Mass Communication & Journalism.

• Multimedia journalist:  They work in media outlets such as newspapers, magazines and blogs. With the growing presence of media, lots of opportunities are coming up in print, broadcast and online publishing.
• Public relations executive: They work for a company or as a freelancer, representing various clients. Their job is to publicise an organisation's or person’s accomplishments through different news media like newspapers and television. 
• Media planner: They negotiate advertising space with media owners and determine ad timing. They also analyse demographic data to find out what kind of advertisements would serve the purpose of their clients.
• Advertisement executive: These professionals work on the development and production of advertising campaigns for print, online and broadcast distribution. Career opportunities exist in the business world with agencies and media outlets.
• News broadcaster: They work for news outlets and networks. Their main responsibility is to filter the content that is presented to the public and serve as the public face of that news channel/network.
• Radio Jockey: They work on radio stations, play songs and come up with new ways to increase the radio station's customer engagement.
