The National Open Full Contact Karate Championship 2024, organized by Shivaji Gaanguly's Academy Mind and Body, took place at City Centre 2 in Newtown from November 15 to 17. This prestigious event brought together over 450 participants from 15 different states across India, all competing in various karate disciplines.
The tournament served as an exciting platform for karatekas to showcase their skills and sportsmanship, while also promoting fitness and martial arts excellence in the country.
One of the highlights of the championship was the collaboration between the academy and the Japanese Embassy in Kolkata to celebrate Japan Month. This initiative helped foster cultural exchange and strengthened ties between India and Japan, especially in the realm of martial arts.
The special guest of honor for the event was YAMASAKI Matsutaro, the Deputy Consul General of the Japanese Embassy in Kolkata. His presence added a distinguished touch to the proceedings and underlined the event's international significance.
The tournament saw intense competition, with participants giving their best performances on the mat. In the final standings, Soham Majumdar from West Bengal emerged as the Grand Champion, displaying exceptional skill and determination throughout the event.
Soumyadeep Roy, also from West Bengal, was honored as the Vice Champion, securing his place as one of the top competitors.
