The Regional ASISC Quiz Competition for West Bengal and North-Eastern states (junior category) took place in Delhi Public School Newtown on 4 August 2023. The quiz is conducted by the Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate (ASISC) and is a part of the Father George Hess Literary Competitions 2023.
Thirty schools from the region participated in the quiz, which had 1 preliminary round, 3 semi-finals and the finals. “The winners of the regional level quizzes from across the country will go on to play the ASISC National Quiz. The quiz is part of the annual literary competitions organised by ASISC, which also includes debate, declamation, creative writing and painting,” said Ahanaa Bhattacharjee, ASISC Coordinator who was present at the event.
Speaking to Edugraph, Sonali Sen, Principal of DPS Newtown said for the participating students, “Watch, observe, learn and train yourselves to think on your feet. Apply what you know, try and recall all your experiences of reading. And definitely read. Without reading you are nowhere… In your mind, the kind of thought processes that evolve, the internalisation that happens while you are reading, and the visuals that you see in your mind, are completely unique in the case of reading.”
This is the second time DPS Newtown is hosting the ASISC Quiz, informed Ambica Mehra, Vice Principal of DPS Newtown. “We were enthralled by the wealth of knowledge and really enjoyed hearing the confident answers of these sharp quizzers. I am sure every one of them is leaving richer in knowledge and experience,” she added.
The host school Delhi Public School Newtown was declared the winner of the Regional Quiz, while Modern High School for Girls and Delhi Public School Megacity were declared the first and second runners-up, respectively.
