The lamp lighting ceremony of the 14th batch of Nursing cadets at the College of Nursing, Command Hospital (Eastern Command) shimmered with the promise of dedication and service on January 29, 2024. Major General A K Srivastava, Commandant of the hospital, illuminated the event as the esteemed Chief Guest, while Brig Sudharmma Devi P Brig MNS, Headquarter (Eastern Command), graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
This time honoured ceremony pays homage to Florence Nightingale, fondly known as ‘The Lady with the Lamp,’ the pioneer of modern nursing. For these thirty nursing cadets, it symbolises the culmination of three months of rigorous training and the prestigious moment of donning the nurse's uniform for the first time. More than a ritual, it signifies their profound commitment to embrace this noble profession, dedicated to serving both nation and humanity.
Inducted in October 2023, these cadets will soon embark on their journey to be commissioned into the Military Nursing Services upon the successful completion of their four year BSc Nursing programme under the esteemed West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata.
As tradition dictates, the ceremonial lamp was ignited by the dignitaries. Colonel R K Bhatti, Principal of the College of Nursing, bestowed the sacred flame upon the faculty members, who then passed on the light to the Nursing cadets. With this symbolic act, the cadets stepped into the realm of nursing, taking the nightingale pledge for the very first time, solemnly vowing to dedicate themselves to the service of humanity.T
In his address, the Chief Guest echoed the sentiment of honour and duty, urging the budding nurses to uphold the dignity and professional standards of the Military Nursing Service. With hearts ignited and spirits soaring, these cadets stand poised to illuminate the path of compassion and excellence in the field of nursing, embodying the timeless values of Florence Nightingale's legacy.
